After fifteen years of brewing experiments and research – such as malting, milling, and roasting grain, recreating historical beer recipes, and brewing in his wife’s kitchen – Jerry Grandle decided it was time to take things to a new level. In September 2014, the Spotted Dog Brewery opened, run by Jerry and his wife, Susan. The brewery is named after Ryleigh, the family’s bluetick hound. Our beers have been enjoyed in many states by family and friends, from California to New York. Now that our doors are open to the public, we are proud to be Mesilla’s only microbrewery and gladly share our beers with the Mesilla Valley and its visitors.

Good Eats New Mexico Recommends…

Drinks

Amber Ale
Amber, Spotted Dog Brewery
A light amber ale created with roasted barley and crystal malt. Mildly hopped with Fuggles and Goldings to let the caramel grain shine through. A smooth, easy drinking beer even more suitable for all occasions than Budweiser’s “Golden Suds” (not that it tastes anything like Bud)

India Pale Ale
IPA, Spotted Dog Brewery
Start with Pale ale add extra roasted barley and add 5 infusions of hops, then dry hop for a hoppy balance of hops, barley, and ABV. Awesome on a hot summer day–or almost any day in Mesilla, given the local forecast

Appetizers

Garlic and Herb Fries
Tossed with roasted garlic and herbs

Shrimp Beggar’s Purses
with sweet chili-wasabi sauce

Peking Duck Drummies
with orange chili dipping sauce

Mains

Green Chile Philly
Shaved beef seared with green chile with cheddar-jack & served on a crisp roll

Farmhouse Nosh Board
Bold links of roasted sausage and three cheeses displayed with our pickled spring vegetables and fresh hearth baked bread
